If your output doesn't look like this, it won't change. If your output does look like this, it will change with changes in the GUI

is this true for OMV6 as well? the /etc/resolv.conf should be a symlink to the /run/systemd/resolve/ location?

It was but that recently changed. OMV now ensures it is pointing to the stub-resolv.conf file in the same folder.
