Well maybe I should have mentioned this but this is a brand new build. So there is no existing operating system on it. I will try and complete the OMV install without the NIC being detected and see if I can then reinstall this over it. Hopefully then at least the basics such as ifconfig will be installed. Thanks so much for you help, I will let you know if it works out shortly.
Help me install OMV with Intel e1000e NIC

Seems I can't proceed with the install. When I get to the detect discs I get a big red screen that says No root file system. No root file system is defined. Please correct this from the partitioning menu.

You need to clear the drive. Do the following (assuming there is only one drive in the system):
alt-F2
dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/sda bs=512 count=1000
alt-F1Start installation over again
-
When I get to the Install the GRUB boot loader on a hard disk step I get:
Executing 'grub-install /dev/sda' failed.
This is a fatal error. -
-
Ok I've installed Debian to my "sdd" drive. However whenever I get to the GRUB boot loader part I get the same error as above. So I will continue without a boot loader installed. Now what?
-
It won't boot without a boot loader. Are you disconnecting the drives other than the OS drive?
-
No the setup right now is I have three drives connected via Sata and a 120gb msata card installed on the motor board (which I installed the OS to)
Ok I unplugged everything but the msata and it looks like I got debian and GRUB installed ok.
-
When booting into Debian now I get a blinking cursor after the "assuming drive cache: write through"
-
Not sure what causes that. Did you choose the 3.2 kernel when installing?
-
I don't remember being given the choice
-
Well I reinstalled it again and now I'm sitting at a login prompt
-
Ok. Does ifconfig exist? I assume it does. You can go back to the "After the installation is complete" instructions.
-
it exists now if I run /sbin/ifconfig
-
Good
-
when I get to this part:
"cd e1000e/src"I put in:
root@debian:~/intel# cd e1000e/srcI get:
bash: cd: /e1000e/src: No such file or directoryAt least we are moving forward! Two steps forward, one step back!
-
so I've gotten further (I had the wrong directory) and I'm almost to the end.... but when I get here:
make install
I get:
bash: make: command not foundany ideas?
-
So apparently I don't have the make command installed. When I try to install it I get this:
-
We can enable the network adapter so you can install build-essentials (which has the make command). What is the output of the following:
ifconfig -a
-
A lot:
I also read this to try and solve it myself and do not understand what he means by the edit software sources:
