Just because my ISP doesn't allow doesn't mean the OMV docs are wrong. I was just mentioning it in case your ISP did something similar. Many ISPs allow you to use gmail's smtp servers.
With gmx-Mail no success at all:
smtp = mail.gmx.com
smtp = mail.gmx.com
GMX documentation on https://hilfe.gmx.net/pop-imap/imap/imap-serverdaten.html says:

Maybe there is some option like "enable SMTP/Mail" in OMV I first have to enable?

I don't know if that makes any difference but for me Gmail works well with the following settings:
SMTP port: 465
Encryption mode: SSL/TLS
In username I put in the username without the "@gmail.com". The rest of the settings are the same as yours.
