hello macom: do you know a linux command to see that DHCP is enabled or disabled (static) on my RPi5 (OMV7 installed)? thx and BR

i have. but i prefer independent. i prefer a configuration which is simple and clean. a router is box i do not understand really. i prefer not to connect to a router to the Outside world.
-
If you select static instead of dhcp, don't forget to add the dns server. Usually it is your router, but it is suggested to add another public one as well.
Hello macom thanks a lot. after selecting static IP using omv-firstaid my idea is connect my RPi5 to a local network switch (no router). see the picture below. would that work? i am connecting three devices to the switch: RPi5 (OMV7), RPi (LibreElec), WindowsPC, ... in the future mybe more devices.

I'm considering using the 'omv-firstaid' command in the Linux console after OpenMediaVault (OMV) installation to set the IP address to static. Could someone provide insights or share experiences on whether this approach is effective? I've encountered a window prompt (refer to the screenshot below) and would like to confirm if 'omv-firstaid' is a reliable method for configuring a static IP address in OMV. Your advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

@raufig3 thank you. is there no way to do it in linux console immediately after installation?

Hello community! I recently installed OpenMediaVault 7 on my Raspberry Pi 5, and I'm curious about the network configuration. Does OMV automatically assign a static IP address during installation, or do I need to configure it manually? I've noticed the IP address 192.168.1.42, but I want to confirm if it remains static when connected to a switch only. Any insights or guidance on OMV network settings post-installation would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

What is the purpose of the Windows PC? Just to access the OMV GUI?
Yes
Under these conditions it seems that your idea is to have a closed system that only serves to play movies on a TV.
That’s correct
So in my opinion you don't need a NAS. It would be easier to install the data disks on the Windows PC, install Kodi on that PC and connect it to the TV.
Thanks for the hint

thanks chente for the information, i could find another solution. i will connect everything to a switch without using the router to running my home theater "autonom":
three devices connecting to a network switch. the three devices are: (1) raspberry pi media sever runing omv, (2) windows pc for communicate with the omv via webinterface, (3) raspberry media player running openelec

How would you get updates? i do not need at the moment
why would you do this? i need omv only in my home network
for what reason would you need this? once the nas is running i am happy and any internet access should manipulate my system

Hello all,
how can I permanently disable internet but keep local network?
I am using Raspberry Pi 5 with OS Lite Debian 12 (Bookworm) and openmediavault 7.0-23 (Sandworm).
-
Thank you very much. So, the "0" corresponds to the minor version.
Example1: "openmediavault 7.0-23 (Sandworm)"
- "7" denotes the major version.
- "0" signifies the development version.
- "23" represents the number of releases.
Example2: openmediavault 7.1-1 (Sandworm)
- "7" denotes the major version.
- "1" stable version.
- "1" first release.
Would Example2 the naming of the fist stable version of OMV7? Is my understanding correct?
