Cannot update through OMV GUI

  • When i try to update packages through the OMV GUI i get the following error.
Any ideas how to get rid of this problem and enable me to update again?

Any help is greatly appreciated. I spent some time setting this system up.

  • I just tried installing through CLI and everything worked fine.
I just installed 1 package for test.

So the problem appears only when upgrading through the OMV GUI.
Anyone have an idea where this might come from?

What version of OMV? Have you tried the apt-clean button? Do you have a desktop environment installed?

  • First of all thanks for taking note :)

    What version of OMV?

    Version: 2.1.17 Stone burner

Have you tried the apt-clean button?

I tried apt-clean on CLI. Where is the apt-clean button in OMV?

Do you have a desktop environment installed?

Yes i have Gnome and the remote desktop plugin installed (that uses xfe or so). Although i only use the desktop env only via remote and it is not really needed.

I didn't mean apt-get clean. I mean omv-aptclean or the apt clean button in omv-extras.

If I remember correctly, others who had this problem had the full desktop environment installed. I have the remotedesktop (and therefore xfce) installed on a few systems without issue. What is the output of the following as root:

    echo $PATH
    cat /etc/login.defs | grep -i path

    omv 7.1.0-2 sandworm | 64 bit | 6.8 proxmox kernel

    plugins :: omvextrasorg 7.0 | kvm 7.0.13 | compose 7.2 | k8s 7.1.0-3 | cputemp 7.0.1 | mergerfs 7.0.5 | scripts 7.0.1

  • I uninstalled gnome. That did not help first but after a reboot the upgrade worked. So it is fixed!!! Thanks!

For completeness i am nevertheless answering your questions:

    echo $PATH

    Code
    /usr/local/sbin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/sbin:/usr/bin:/sbin:/bin

    cat /etc/login.defs | grep -i path

    Code
    # Three items must be defined: MAIL_DIR, ENV_SUPATH, and ENV_PATH.
    # sequence. If a full pathname, then hushed mode will be enabled if the
    # user's name or shell are found in the file. If not a full pathname, then
    # *REQUIRED* The default PATH settings, for superuser and normal users.
    ENV_SUPATH PATH=/usr/local/sbin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/sbin:/usr/bin:/sbin:/bin
    ENV_PATH PATH=/usr/local/bin:/usr/bin:/bin:/usr/local/games:/usr/games
    # If defined, either full pathname of a file containing device names or
    #CRACKLIB_DICTPATH

Wish I knew what Gnome was changing to cause this. Your output from both commands is fine.

  • Unfortunately i have to re-open this thread again. It seemed to be solved but with todays available updates i ran into the same problem again:
    This is really annoying :(

    **UPDATE:
I rebooted the machine as that helped me the last time and re-tried updating: it worked and installed all pending updates.
Now this leads me to the idea that some process that gets started at some point hinders updating from within OMV.
Might it be the remote desktop plugin that is not closed properly when logging out?

It isn't the remote desktop plugin. I use it on multiple machines and have never seen this issue. Hard to say what is causing it.
