Growing RAID / resizing filesystem

I'm running software RAID 5. I have another HDD on the way. What's the proper procedure so I don't corrupt all of my data.

Shut the system down, grow or expand the raid, resize filesystem? Do I need to mount/unmount anything? I always seem to screw stuff up.

If the new disk is already there you can add using the grow button in raid panel.ra

After the disk has finished syncthing, you need to expand the fs, in the corresponding filesytem section.

Notes:
what size is your array?
is any of the disks there present different in size?

new disk isn't installed yet. Right now I have 3 4TB drives. This will put me at 4 4 TB drives.

So install disk. Do I need to format or initialize it or anything? Then grow raid under the raid section. Then once that finishes (I'm assuming it'll take more then a day for that.?) I expand the file system? Does that take time like growing the raid? After that I should be good to go? I appreciate it

Re syncthing the array takes a while, estimate like few hours maybe 3-8 hours, the webui shows estimate of the remaining time. Expand the fs shouldn't take more than a couple of minutes

Syncing took 26 hours and the Web gui froze when I resized the file system but we're up and running
