I finished the above JBOD DAS box build. I'm happy with it. Not much to it. The only components in the box are the power supply, the SFF-8088 to SFF-8087 feed thru, and the SFF-8087 forward fan out cables.

It provides me another 8 bays of hot swap 3.5in in either SAS or SATA flavors. I'll be buying SAS drives for it once I need to populate it further.

I guess you will connect it in the machine of your signature?

Yes. That's where I installed the LSI SAS HBA controller. The controller in the OMV NAS box connects to the DAS box with the two SFF-8088 to SFF-8088 cables.

This gives me a total of seventeen 3.5in hot swap drive bays.

Is it correct to assume that if it runs OMV, it will run omv-extras as well? Because the extras make OMV so wonderful!
