Error installing OMV5 on RPI4/RPI3

  • Hi

I am trying to install OMV5 on RPI4 and RPI3 using this guide https://raw.githubusercontent.…ing_OMV5_on_an%20R-PI.pdf

I get the same errors on RPI4 SSD boot and on RPI3 SDCARD boot, I have had it working about a year ago with no errors,

its a clean install using 2021-03-04-raspios-buster-armhf-lite.img.

    Thanks in advance...

fatal: file /etc/postfix/main.cf: parameter mydomain: bad parameter value: 43200

Your hostname is invalid. The postfix package is failing to install because of it.

Changed the title of the thread from “Erros installing OMV5 on RPI4/RPI3” to “Error installing OMV5 on RPI4/RPI3”.
  • Thanks for your quick reply

I have not change the host name "rasperrypi", dont know where the 43200 comes from

changed it to omvpi3.local, same error...

What is the output of: hostname -f

    setting myhostname: raspberrypi.43200

I can't explain why postfix is having this problem then. This isn't something OMV can fix. I would try rebooting after changing hostname to have local in it.

  • Found a solution ...

for some reason myhostname was raspiberry.43200...

    changed it to omvpi3.local...

    Edit /etc/postfix/main.cf file by using:

    Code
    sudo nano /etc/postfix/main.cf

    Now, change:

    Code
    myhostname =

    to

    Code
    myhostname = your_hostname #name of your hostname

Now reboot your system and run:

    Code
    sudo apt install -f

I'm still curious why this needed to be done. I have installed many times on an RPi and never needed to do this. Did you configure things before running the install script?

I can also say the same. I've lost count of the amount of times installing the RaspiOS and then use the script and only fails I use to have is a bad WiFi connection.

    pi@raspberrypi:~ $ wget -O - https://github.com/OpenMediaVault-Plugin-Developers /installScript/raw/master/install | sudo bash

If you run this as "pi", you need to prepend "sudo" to the command:

OpenMediaVault-Plugin-Developers/installScript: script that installs omv-extras and openmediavault if not installed already. (github.com)

  • Yes I am aware of that, it was a cut and paste error..., but I could have used sudo -i first...

but it would not change anything..

Can't get where the .43200 is coming from

Must be a bug in the postfix package. I would change the hostname in the install script but that would require main.cf to be there first. Maybe file a bug report with Debian?
