[SOLVED] how to shrink a volumegroup

  • Servus guys

on our NAS version 4.1.36-1 is working a volumegroup as well. Created with the LVM as a RAID5 with 4 drives each 3TB.

The physical volume is 8.19TB un use about 1.4TB.

Is it possible toshrink that volume?

My project is to reduce the capacity and then change the used disks to 2TB SSD drives.

This would be a painful process. Normally you would add the new disks to the volume group, resize the PV, and do a pvmove to the new disks. It takes forever. You would better off to create a new volume with the new disks and rsync the data from the old VG to the new one.
