Hi, I'm setting up a home server, which main function will be backing up my NextCloud (I'm professor/ PI, and myself and my group use NC since ~10 years for manuscripts, data etc.).
Sometimes accidents happen, and we need to recover from backups. Currently, I'm using duplicati on one of my PCs, but I need something more professional and 24/7.
OK. This is my plan:
1. Installation of a home server with a small disk (~160 Gb) for the OS/software and a separate 4tb for data. The base system should be Debian (I'll recycle an old PC with 8Gb RAM).
2. NextCloud Client for syncing the cloud server data to my local backup server. Currently, I have about 110 Gb there.
3. Bacula with Bacularis Web UI <https://bacularis.app/> for backups of the synchronized NextCloud data, and optionally other machines/ Maildir (80k+ mails) in my network.
4. Of course, it would be nice, to use this server also as an NAS for media, file sharing, etc. Thus, I consider to use OMV as the base system, and install the NextCloud Client and Bacularis "on top".
Has anyone tried a similar setup, and can share her/his experiences?
Or should I install a standard Debian, with the NextCloud Client and Bacularis, and a media server/shared folders afterwards?
Thanks for your comments!
Robert
