Guests to download only - no directory listing (SMB)

  • I have an SMB share with files that I wish guests to be able to access if they know the filename only.

I do not want them to be able to perform a directory listing and view all files.

I have the "Others" permission set to execute only

By toggling the "nobody" user "Read-only" attribute I can only achieve no access or access with directory listing

This is more of a Samba configuration issue than OMV, the following occurs to me:

    If you set the variable

access based share enum = yes

In the Samba service, users will only have the directories to which they have access listed. You can set that variable in the samba configuration in the additional options field, that will apply to all shared folders, or set it on each folder individually.

Once that is done you can grant permissions to subfolders within that folder and the user should be able to access those files. I have never tried this. Samba probably has other tools to achieve what you want, I would look at the manual.

  • Appreciate the help.

Currently the users can only access certain shares however I want them to prevent them obtaining a directory listing.

I'll ask in a samba forum too.
