Plugins not at latest versions

  • Hi gang, me again, just wondering why lot's of the plugins in OMV are not at there latest version. Example, TransmissionBT, OwnCloud, etc.

Also, how do you get the true version # of a plugin installed?

    Thanks,

They are all there on my system. Maybe you are getting an error in apt-get update. Try it from the command line.

    omv 7.0.5-1 sandworm | 64 bit | 6.8 proxmox kernel

    plugins :: omvextrasorg 7.0 | kvm 7.0.13 | compose 7.2 | k8s 7.1.0-3 | cputemp 7.0.1 | mergerfs 7.0.4 | scripts 7.0.1

Please try ctrl-shift-R and read this before posting a question.

Please put your OMV system details in your signature.
Please don't PM for support... Too many PMs!

  • Can you explain a bit more thoroughly? Do you mean plugins or the packages the plugin uses?

I'm going to guess you mean the packages provided by Debian. I think you should read this to get a better understanding of why Debian don't always have the latest.

We could of course package the latest versions of things ourselves, but I don't want to, and I'm pretty sure no-one has the time for it. That is time better spent on trying to keep plugins as stable as possible with the little time over we have.

Hi ryecoaaron, I ran the apt-get update, no errors and I'm pointing to the debian servers in Canada.

Hi HK-47, I mean the version of the software which comes from aplugin, let's say TransmissionBT is at version 2.82 which on the internet, version 2.84 is the latest. I know it's takes a lot of time to integrate and test new plugin versions, just wanted to know if it was because the newer version didn't work or just not enough time.

    Thanks in advance.

Then you should read the link I provided. We use whatever Debian provides from their repos since OpenMediaVault is using Debian as its base. With OMV 1.0 we're based on Debian Wheezy and that version provides Transmission 2.82. When the switch to Jessie happens Transmission will be at version 2.84 since that's what Debian provides. What we provide is only the plugin packages that manages services like Transmission :) I hope this clears it up for you!

  • Hi HK-47, I did read the link that you provided but I always figured that the operating system should not control which software version you use.

I know it makes everything stable but so does new version of applications which adds features and fixes bugs.

  • Thats the philosophy of Debian. They have a specific version in their repos, which is set on the feature freeze. This version will be supported with Security updates until the EoL of the Debian Version.

    Greetings
