Shellinabox plugin in testing repo
-
- OMV 1.0

I thought about using UPNP for OMV... Then it would be an ez to enable sth like shellinabox for a short time within the OMV web interface without logging into the router...
-
Works in chrome
and ff
It does not work in lynx -

Browsers are a pain in the ass..

Hope Aaron take some time to try to build a plugin for Gate One http://liftoffsoftware.com/Products/GateOne
-
I can't get the .deb to build using the source code. The .deb on their github page is outdated. Those are two problems right now.
-
-
Well,
I don't understand much of linux but on their page they say version 1.1 and on github I found this gateone_1.1-1_all.deb despite dated Nov 2, 2012 is too old?
It seems this is the current version but if you say too old, I really don't know! -
crisman, no worries. you are ok with shellinabox, at least while we are on wheezy.
-
The code on github is version 1.2.0
-

Tekkb,
I really haven't tried shellinabox because a few posts above you said the package was a little old so I was hoping that Aaron could get Gate One working since it seems more powerful but I have to try shellinabox.

Now I'm confused? the code is newer?
-
Yep. They just haven't packaged it. Maybe it still has issues.

It would take a while for a plugin... The shellinabox plugin uses ssl and if you use it locally, on your lan, you will not have an problems. The key is not in having all these advanced features. It is just in being able to use command line in the web gui.

So, still there's hope to get it working in near future?
-
Actually, I just installed 1.1 and it is easy to install/configure. I would guess the current shellinabox plugin could just have a few things changed to swap out shellinabox for gateone. It could be expanded for other gateone features. You can even set it to auth with pam but I couldn't get that working.
GateOne does still connect locally using ssh but you shouldn't need another port open on the router since the gateone daemon is on the same server. The nice thing is you could connect to any machine inside the firewall without having to have a port open for each. It does have a terminal plugin which may eliminate the need for ssh but if you don't have to open a port, what is the point.
This could be interesting...

That sounds great..!

Actually, to me it doesn't That just means it's easier to reach every computer behind your firewall if they reach that page. If I need to reach a computer through SSH behind my LAN but it doesn't have a port opened for it I just do ssh -A -t user@public.com ssh -A user@computer.lan -

That's the key!
BTW, shellinabox does allow copy-paste? I managed yesterday to have it working, but I didn't check if it allows me to copy-paste. -
-
When you right click in shellinabox there is an optiont "paste from browser". Click on that and a box pulls up. You can paste whatever you want in that box. Then click on ok and it will be in the command line of shellinabox.
Hold down your left mouse button and then highlight what you want to copy. Then right click and then click on copy. Then you can paste wherever the info from shellinabox.

I don't need fancy stuff. I just like ability to have cli in the web gui. That is enough for me. Port 10000(webmin) and port 22(ssh) cannot be used outside of my LAN's subnet. I only have 3 ports open on my router:
1194 udp openvpn-as
943 tcp openvpn-as
32400 tcp plexEven 943 could be closed as I already have clients setup. But I like to have it available if I need to setup on another device.
