Logitech Media Server or equivalen

  • Hi,
I've been playing around with squeeze plug as a cheap way for deliverying audio to different locations in the house, but the raspberry pi is a little slow as a server - so wanted to install logitech media server on the OMV. Ive found a plugin which doest seem to do anything (http://code.google.com/p/openmediavault-lms/

So the idea is to be able to play different audio sources in different location (viw RPi) or same source syncronised in all rooms (kinda like a cheap Sonos)

    Help would be appreciated.

  • Playing different audio in different locations could you simple achieve by using miniDLNA. You could also use Itunes... for the later i have no idea.

    Hey,

i am searching for a solution for multiroom audio too, but i did not find any so far :( xbmc does not support it (yet).

as the plugin you found is from Jan 2012 - i think it is just too old to work.

  • For both audio and video miniDLNA works fine - so long as you do not want the video transcoded as miniDLNA does not transcode. miniDLNA can be added through the optional plugins.

If you need the video transcoded many have been using Plex Media Server and here is a how to thread http://forums.openmediavault.org/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=1203

  • Greate i just installed the LMS on mij OMV server.
But does someone know if it is possible to install a Squeezeplayer as wel ?
Now i just use a Rasspbarry PI But i can easy connect my server to my audio set.

  • Hi Frank!

    NOTE:
otherwise you can also download my builds from (http://ul.to/folder/rsv4gn) and follow the next steps:

    1) login to your OMV shell
    2) sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install autoconf libasound2-dev
    3) move the downloaded scripts to your OMV directory /etc/local/bin an run 'sh squeezeslave_build.sh'
    4) run 'bash config-squeezeslave.sh'

The important parameters configured in the service are:
    1) picking the correct audio output device.
    2) a fake "mac address" which sets this squeezeslave as a player with a unique identity to SBS/LMS
    3) Install / Enable / Start squeezeslave service
    4) Quit / Done
    5) Enjoy

    regards, Audrey
