I'm try to compile this kernel 4.8.9, but it encountered some errors.

Why compile? The 4.8 kernel is already in stretch which means it will be in jessie-backports soon.

Either wait for the package to enter the backports repo and I will change omv-extras to install it.

install the package meant for stretch (not sure if this will cause issues)
apt-get -t jessie-backports install linux-base
wget http://ftp.us.debian.org/debian/pool/main/l/linux/linux-image-4.8.0-1-amd64-unsigned_4.8.5-1_amd64.deb

Are this jessie backports compatible with OMV3?

Yep. OMV3 is Debian Jessie.

I assuming these backports are precompiled that would work on OMV3.

I guess I don't understand the question then. Jessie-backports are Stretch packages that are backported/compiled to/for Jessie. And if OMV 3 is Jessie, why wouldn't they work with OMV3? The Install Backports Kernel button in omv-extras installs packages from jessie-backports.
