Exact. That serves to create an image. What you are doing with your docker-compose yaml file is pulling an already existing docker image from a repository.
They are different methods. Dockerfile allows you to customize a container in many more advanced ways. https://docs.docker.com/engine/reference/builder/
I would not start trying to build docker images until you have a very thorough understanding of docker.
I don't will create docker images.
I will only use already existing docker image from a repository.
