deb command not working to install nvidia drivers

  • Trying to install a nvidia card per nvidia's instructions and Chris's instructions. There comes a point where I have to:::

Add "contrib" and "non-free" components to /etc/apt/sources.list, for example:

    Code
    # Debian 11 "Bullseye"
deb http://deb.debian.org/debian/ bullseye main contrib non-free

When I enter it, I get this error:

    -bash: deb: command not found

    -bash: deb-src: command not found

I've searched and can't find a solution, and it doesn't help that deb is in the word Debian!!

Some assistance either directing me to a post that could help me or a command I need to run would be very helpful.

    Thanks, ML

  • What are you trying to do exactly?

If its changing the sources.list then you use an editor (or sed but I don't know how), NOT run a deb command

    sudo nano /etc/apt/sources.list

  • Thanks Soma. Trying to install nvidia drivers per this thread.
