Which disk is faulty on a raid?

  • Hello

I get a mail from my OMV server telling :

    Zitat

A Fail event had been detected on md device /dev/md0.

It could be related to component device /dev/sdc.

This seem's to mean that sdc has trouble and has to be changed.

    It is confirm by :

But If I log on the web interface of OMV I have this screen that could let think it is sdb that has a trouble???

Which device do I need to change ? (or is there a way to correct ?)

    Thanks

  • Question not helpful tho. Why did you pick raid if you have no idea how to fix it?

You have also added a link to your nextcloud maybe by mistake after the word "Thanks"

Also tells you right where you pasted

    Code
    0 8 32 - faulty /dev/sdc

Disk B also has smart errors from the look of it do a check on both disks to confirm.

Plugins - compose, cputemp, omv-extras, sharerootfs.

    Drives - 512gb SSD Boot, 1tb nvme Data, 16TB (8tbx 2 merg) Media,

Docker - dozzle, netdata, nginx-proxy-manager, plex, prowlarr, qbittorrentvpn, radarr, sonarr, watchtower.

  • Thanks link removed.

I know how to change a disk when one is dead :)

But the message vs the interface seem's not so clear if the disk C is dead or if it can be corrected?

Concerning the test I am still looking to perform them...

    When launching :

    Code
    sudo smartctl -t short /dev/sdc

    I get a :

    Code
=== START OF OFFLINE IMMEDIATE AND SELF-TEST SECTION ===
Sending command: "Execute SMART Short self-test routine immediately in off-line mode".
Command "Execute SMART Short self-test routine immediately in off-line mode" failed: scsi error unsupported field in scsi command
  • daft question have you tried rebooting and running it again only ask as I had a similar issue ages ago.

  • Reboot does not allow the tes by CLI

=> I have try to add with the web interface a short test a 17h... will see if it works

The reboot had a effect :

The sdc disk has been removed from the raid :)

I am surprised there is no "big warning" on the dashboard to say it?

=> But now I have no doubt I have to change it ...

Concerning the sdb he had some bad sector...

=> After reconstruction with the new disk I will have to change it also!

  • Yea looks like you will have to backup your data before you remake the array

If you have configured notifications correctly you should receive a warning email.

And surprised that "a missing disk in a raid" is not falsing on dashboard....

If you think it should appear you can apply here. https://github.com/openmediavault/openmediavault/issues

You can also contribute to the openmediavault code.

  • Ok I will propose this behaviou :)

Concerning the contribution my coding level is too bad...

I only know how to write script in python... and no developpmeent in java, C or other language....

    mabe in some years ;)
