Hello, I was thinking of buying the new i3 8100 (4 cores) and build a new NAS based on OMV.
Is OMV compatible with these new processors or there could be some problems?

Do a web search for 'apollo lake site:openmediavault.org' to get at least a feeling for what you're trying.
OMV is something not dependent on CPU details at all sitting on top of a Debian distro. The important stuff (BIOS/UEFI and driver/kernel hassles) happens several layers below and if you're not very familiar with all these hardware related issues I would strongly recommend a very conservative approach choosing your hardware (using only things that were already there 2 or maybe even 3 years ago)

OMV3 is based on Debian 8 and is the current stable version.
OMV4 is based on Debian 9 and is in development phase. So you can check which processor is supported by which version of Debian. Might be that CoffeLake will be supported by Debian 10.

Probably better to check which processors are already used for Debian 8 and OMV3.
Is there a reason why you are looking for the latest processor? You could gain you some bucks by using somewhat older processors. -

With the lake processor there are always difficulties with the installation.
which I have heard from other forums. -

At the moment I'm using an AMD Athlon II X2 and sometimes it's a bit laggy so I was planning to buy something better.
I also have an i5 750 (haswell) that I don't use but I don't know if it's so much better than the AMD I'm using. -
I'm using the i5 750 now and the system is much better now.
