Hi.
I want to accomplish some automated way to conserve power, but in a way, that I can always reach my NAS on-demand.
Scenario:
- Shutdown (or sleep) NAS over a night or when "no one" is using NAS for a specified period of time.
- Resume (power-on, WoL), when I want to reach my data.
- Even when OMV is "operating" as a Linux system I want to sleep my harddrives with data when there's no read/write operations.
Plugins/settings, that I have:
- schedules jobs in System/Power Management (obviously)
- Physical Disk Properties in Storage/Disks
- Autoshutdown
- WOL
Disks:
- 60GB SSD - system
- 3TB Seagate IronWolf
- 3TB Seagate Barracuda
Questions:
- Which setting/plugin (or combination) I should use to achieve my goals in best way?
- I can wake my NAS from sleep, but I have to login to my router and execute WoL command to wake up NAS remotely. Is there a way to wake up NAS automatically, when I try to access my shared/SMB folder?
- Should I set APM for my disks to conserve energy or just set up a "idle" time, after which NAS will put itself to sleep?
- Is there a need to set APM for SSD drive or SSD are generally not using much energy when nothing is "going on"?
- WOL plugin has Rtcwake tab. Is this the same as cronjobs in Power Management or is there sth different/better? If yes, should they be combined or not?
