If that fixed it according to the link your install may have failed. You might just want to reinstall to avoid other problems in the future.
Ignore my post above as my win 10 vm was not setup properly.
-
I reinstalled it three times. One fully update, one with only smb enabeled and another time with re-downloading the iso and re-creating the USB stick. Always same behavior.
And, as there are others with the same problem, i doubt corrupt hardware or download.

I thought it might have sth to do with my hardware so that's why I mentioned it. However, now it seems to be pretty random issue.

Okay. Found the issue.
If you want to fix it :
More info here : https://lists.debian.org/debian-user/2002/12/msg00965.htmlI tried running this but got this error:
Any ideas? The start-stop-daemon exists in that folder, not with e .,REAL extension though.
-
cannot stat ‘/sbin/start-stop-daemon.REAL’: No such file or directory
Means you did not have that file.
See if this thread may help. https://forum.openmediavault.o…s-samba-Trouble-shooting/ I am trying to make a generic samba thread there.
There is also a samba upgrade available.

I had the same issue, my OMV machine not showing up at all as a shared device (but was reachable with ssh and via wew GUI). The command referenced abover resolved it:
mv /sbin/start-stop-daemon.REAL /sbin/start-stop-daemon
This was a clean install using 3.0.80. I've had this issue before but in the past had given up and reverted back to 2.x
