Web UI Issue + samba failure

    Hi all, I have been browsing through the posts on this forum and wanted to ask few questions regarding the issues that I am experiencing. There are multiple issues related to web UI. I was not able to land on the home page of web UI was getting a 502 Bad Gateway. I saw this post, although this solution did not survive reboot later I found that I had to run chown root.root / to fix this issue. Now I was able to land on the homepage of WebUI. Now coming to log in, I am not able to login unless I run omv-engined -d -f. If I dont run that in CLI and try to log in I am getting this error


    Failed to connect to socket: No such file or directory

    Even after running omv-engined -d -f and logging, in I am greeted with top banner

    The configuration has been changed. You must apply the changes in order for them to take effect. When I click apply , it gives me an error has occurred.

    I am running OMV 5.6.2.1 (usul) with linux 5.10.0.0 bpo.3-amd64 kernel. I tried omv-firstaid and clearing the web control panel cache , clear apt etc.

    Another error that I am facing smb/cifs is not working for some reason. I restarted the service, but it is not running. I am novice in linux, any help would be appreciated. I reinstalled omv , ran apt-update apt-upgrade but still no avail. I wanted to why was this issue caused in the first place. I installed union file system merger fs plug in and created a mergerfs files sytem that made my ssh deamon fail had to connect to the server to restart it. In one of the post I found I had to add *no fail* in fstab for the merfs file system. I added and restarted the sshd it worked , I entirely removed the merger fs file system which was present.

    It started after I created a mergerfs file system combining both of my HDDs . Also , I was unable to rename the created the resulting file system.

    OMV went into recovery mode because there was no *no fail* in the fstab for the mergefs file system that I created.

    I also tried


    Code
    apt-get remove openmediavault
apt-get install openmediavault


    and then again installed plugins via wget


    Still getting the same error. Let me know where I am going wrong. Thanks !

    Unfortunately not. Best thing is to make screenshots of the settings in GUI. Then you can keep config.xml as reference, but you cannot use it to restore the configuration.


    Maybe you can also wait a bit and see if somebody else comes up with an idea how to fix the system.

    yeah, All my other services are working. I installed docker in the same SSD that OMV was installed in. and all my containers are working except only the WEB UI. Will poke and wait around . Do you know how do we uninstall php completely ? I have different php versions


    Is this normal ?

    Thanks. Sorry for another question, is there a omv-salt command for samba ? I want to uninstall and reinstall samba shares and see if that helps ? .


    Is this correct apt-get purge samba ? and then apt-get install samba
