Upgrade from 4 to 5

  • Hello, macom,

I have this small mobo that looks like a raspberry pi called helios4 > https://kobol.io/helios4/

The HDDs are connected via SATA, it is all set up in its own enclosure.

I checked in a different thread, that you attempted the full backup using an OMV4 backup plugin, and selected the option "fsarchiver" should I go with that one too? Also, you are telling the OMV4 to store the SD card full backup in the same OMV4 system data drives/ RAID share SMB directory?

    Backup completed:

Here is how my repos look like:

Should I remove the plugins before starting the "# ./omv-release-upgrade-5" script?

    Thank you in advance,

    • Offizieller Beitrag

No idea, how the post ended up in a new thread :/

Should I remove the plugins before starting the "# ./omv-release-upgrade-5" script?

Only the ones which you are not using and the ones which are not available in OMV5.

RE: Why should you use or not use dockers

  • macom,

You are right... I also, checked your other thread in which you posted a success restore with a filesystem btrfs? in my case, I am using:

    EXT4

And this is my current RAID configuration:

Looks like a not too complex set up I did not configure any other plugins other than the extras repo and the shell in a box. No plex server no docker, etc...

I am hoping it is OK to move forward...

What do you think, the worst scenario, re-install OMV5 and you mentioned that the system might recognize the RAID mdadm mirror?

    Sincerely,

  • macom,

    root@nas:~/openmediavault-upgrade-4.7# ./omv-release-upgrade-5

    Is this completed?

    The installation stopped there.

    shell in a box

the plugin is not available in OMV5. So remove it.

Should be ok as the drives are connected via sata, not USB.

Make sure to run the update script in a screen session. The script will run for some time and you want to be able to reconnect to the session in case you loose the connection.

E: The repository 'https://dl.bintray.com/openmediavault-plugin-developers/arrakis stretch Release' does no longer have a Release file.

You need to fix the repo first.

RE: omv-extras repos moving to github

No. You need to fix your repos before running the upgrade - RE: omv-extras repos moving to github

  • ryecoaaron / macom,

I did that before and I was still getting that stretch error when running the apt-get update...

    Code
    root@nas:/etc/apt/sources.list.d# ls -l
    total 28
    -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 52 Jul 23 23:55 armbian.list
    -rw-rw-r-- 1 root root 70 Aug 1 2019 armbian.list.disabled
    -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 149 Jul 23 23:55 omv-extras-org.list
    -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 79 Jul 23 23:53 openmediavault-kernel-backports.list
    -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 60 Apr 25 2019 openmediavault-local.list
    -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 649 Jul 23 23:55 openmediavault.list
    -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 450 Aug 15 2019 stretch.list

    Should I delete that file > stretch.list?

    I already completed this

    Thank you in advance,

    • Offizieller Beitrag

    I did that before

    Something must have went wrong because I still see bintray repos and I don't see the omv-extras .bak file. I would delete these;

    sudo rm /etc/apt/sources.list.d/omv-extras*list /etc/apt/sources.list.d/stretch.list

Then post the output of: sudo apt-get update

  • ryecoaaron / macom,

I noticed that in this file > `omv-extras-org.list`

    I still have this:

    Code
    root@nas:/etc/apt/sources.list.d# cat omv-extras-org.list
    # This is file is generated.
    # OMV-Extras repos
    #
    # OMV-Extras.org
    deb https://dl.bintray.com/openmediavault-plugin-developers/arrakis stretch main

  • ryecoaaron / macom,

    Looks better.

Should I try running the upgrade script again?

    `root@nas:~/openmediavault-upgrade-4.7# ./omv-release-upgrade-5`

    Thank you in advance,

  • Ryecoaaron,

Noted, I really appreciate the help. I guess Debian has definitely come a long way... five years ago, I will forget it and just do a fresh install... I guess the upgrades are becoming better, tested, etc... I will not claim victory yet, but so far so good.

I will report here either result good or bad.

    Sincerely,

Jetzt mitmachen!
