Follow this -> installation guide (use the Debian 64bit netinst ISO). After the Debian installation is complete, install PuTTY on a Windows or Mac client (this will explain -> PuTTY)
You will then be able to copy and paste into the Debian command line. After copying something from your client (cntl+c), in PuTTY, a right mouse click will paste onto the command line.
Although I can find my ip addr, I did not install ssh server on the original install. I did try putty and nothing without it. I am not sure how to add now, not that fluent as a noobie.

All of this is starting to remind me of this thread a lot.
This brings back the issue on installing in a ASUS PRIME H410M mainboard which took around 20 pages:
New install fails with fclose - General - openmediavault
Can you try to identify the motherboard model? HP usually uses Asus boards.
If it is the same case, the best solution may be the one suggested by Ryecoaaron in post 5:
If that does not work, then put the ssd in a different system, install OMV, move ssd back to HP, boot, and run omv-firstaid to fix networking.

The computer does not see any other drives at this point, so ssd option I do not believe as an option. Plus limited sata connections without mod.
I will investigate after OMV is successfully installed.

HP is not going to tell you the real model of the motherboard, maybe you can see some reference engraved on the motherboard itself that will take you to the real manufacturer.

Do what Ryecoaaron said but with a USB stick instead of an SSD. Install OMV on a USB stick on another PC and then boot into the HP with that USB stick. Then omv-firstaid to fix the network.

That looks a lot like this

which is the conflicting motherboard of the thread mentioned before. I think you are going to have a lot of trouble installing, take a look at the thread out of curiosity, but it is a very long thread. In the end the solution was the one we have mentioned, install on another computer.
Update I started all over with OMV6 iso. Installed to 16g(usb stick w/sd card). This failed to boot, so installed to 8gb lenovo usb stick. This worked, finished install. Did a few updates not to possible fill up usb stick. Checked and showed plenty of space. Did the omv extras from command line? ECHO must reboot, system seemed to be working, let work over night. Now I can web gui admin login, but none of the choice do anything. Also ssh via putty and states password error, which I know is correct(admin and root). Also, cannot login locally. I dont understand why this is only working temporary? I tried googling and no help.

What is displayed on the screen, when you can not log in?
Web Gui click on left and shows lower items but do not respond.
Locally; invalid operation etc
Run in private mode on the browser and see if behaves the same.
In private mode, seems to work. Thanks! I could also putty in. Tried to do an omv-extras install. States to reboot and then get the :software failure use left mouse....Here we go again.....k
