This isn't as simple as that.

The Pi system lives on 2 partitions: a boot partition formatted in FAT32 with around 256Mb/512Mb and a second ext4 partition with the rest of the space of the drive is on.

To move the SDcard to a single SSD disk, the cleanest way is to clone the SDcard (with Win32Imager, for eg) and flash that image on the SSD.

The partitions will have the same UUIDs and it will be as it was with the SDcard.

After booting, the partition can be expanded via raspi-config to use the, now bigger ext4 partition.

The CON is that the SSD will loose ANY DATA it might have.

If the idea is use another partition on that same SSD, then after the clone is flashed on the SSD, WITHOUT using raspi-config to expand the partition, use fdisk to create another partition on the remaining of the SSD.

The CON here is that partition will have a brand new UUID that will not match the OLD SSD that was used before and has references on the OMV config.xml.

In that case you will have to do the necessary process to do a clean installation of OMV on an SSD disk. I don't know the process, I don't usually use PIs and I have never done that.

After that you just have to use omv-regen to migrate your old OMV configuration. omv-regen will update the new disk's UUID so everything works as before. No matter if it is an SSD, SD card, pendrive or partition, the UUID is updated.

sda1 would be the FAT32 boot partition and sda2 is the ext4 / partition

It can be restored wherever you want. Once OMV is installed you can use omv-regen to migrate the OMV configuration and it will update the rootfs UUID so that it works on the new system as installed, no matter where it is.

Yes, I already read this. That's why I said that before migrating the system with omv-regen, we would have to solve that problem to install OMV on that SSD disk. Once installed it will be a normal process.

The only possible difficulty I see is that to backup the configuration you need the data disks to be available, so that disk must be online. But if you have already installed OMV on a partition of that disk you will not be able to boot with the original system and have that disk be online at the same time. So this topic gets a little complicated.

You would have to backup the configuration, then install OMV and then migrate with omv-regen. The risk is that there will be an update during that time and the regeneration cannot be completed.
