Hi, I'm running OMV 6.9.5-1 (Shaitan) on a Raspberry Pi 3. I'd like to run it on something more powerful. Is moving a configured system over to a RPi4 or 5 easy/hard/impossible? Thank you!
Need more horsepower than my RPi3 can provide. Easy to upgrade to 4 or 5?

You can try to use chente omv-regen.
[How to] Migrate/Restore OMV Settings to Another System with omv-regen - Guides - openmediavault
And share how it goes/went to help other users,
OR
You can just make a clone of the media you are using on Pi3 and put it on the Pi4 or 5.
It should run normal.
Only CON is if the OS you are using isn't pure 64bit.
Just check it with the outputs of this command:
dpkg --print-architecture
If it's arm64, you are good to go.
If it's armhf, then you better go with the regen but use a proper 64bit RaspiOS image.

With omv-regen you can even migrate the OMV configuration on your RPI3 to an amd64 system. The new system does not need to be a PI. Or the opposite also works, from an amd64 to a PI, the architecture does not matter if the new system is capable of managing the same plugins installed on the original system.

Well, it's arm64 on this RPi3, so I reckon I'll order a RPi5 and plug a clone of the existing system into it, hook up the data drives, turn it on and see if smoke comes out! Thank you!

Upgrading from a Raspberry Pi 3 to a Raspberry Pi 4 or 5 for running OMV (OpenMediaVault) is possible but requires some steps. The process isn't too difficult, but it depends on how your current system is configured. First, you need to back up your data and settings on the RPi3. Then, you can set up OMV on the new RPi4 or RPi5. You may need to reinstall OMV on the new device and restore your backup, as the hardware differences could require adjustments to configurations. Overall, it’s a manageable upgrade but not entirely seamless.
