Cannot select device in the file system menu

  • Hi, I just installed OMV 7 on an old Laptop set with Debian as ssh server, I configured Wireguard for remote access, and when I was about to create the shared folder I realized that I needed to create a file system first, so I went to create it but the SSD doesn't appear in the drop-down list, I don't know if I mounted it or not but when I installed the ssh server I selected the entire SSD but I don't know if it has anything to do with it...

Could you give me some advice? Maybe I need to create a separate partition? Ah, I almost forgot: the SSD appears in the Disks section.

I don't know if this would help, but the cpu has an i386 architecture...

One last thing, I cannot wipe the disk in the Disks section.

    Approved the thread.
  • Ok, so, it is very likely that I am blind, but I didn't find anything, and then that is the same guide that I used to install omv, but as I already said it is very likely that I am blind.

Then I think I've been awake for almost 22 hours... maybe I should go to sleep

    Sorry for my disabilities ;(

Update: I read again the guide and I found out that maybe the solution is to create a partition for the storage (because when reading the guide I found out that: if i have installed omv on a single drive i cannot use it as storage...)

Your update is correct. The OS is designed so that the OS is insulated from Data. I would not recommend partitioning a data portion on the drive.

If you must use your OS drive for data, install the "share root" plugin.... which will allow you to use your OS drive for data.

  • Thanks for the advice, now I'm able to use the ssd as file system with the plugin.

I thought that I had to partition the ssd but this is easier.
