I use Hitachi's Ultrastars enterprise class. I've only had a problem with 1 out of my last 10. Expensive... 5 yr warranty.
Yeah, I wonder how much those fukkers cost though????
1k dollars
lol
I have a ST31500341AS bought second hand in 2012 (25% fail rate ) mirrored with a green WD. Guess I should crack the "pig"
Just 791,70 Euros
Even in euro it remains a ridiculous price
ZitatThe assumption that “enterprise” drives would work better than
“consumer” drives has not been true in our tests. I analyzed both of
these types of drives in our system and found that their failure rates in our environment were very similar — with the “consumer” drives actually being slightly more reliable.

->
ZitatAlles anzeigenToday on Amazon, a Seagate 3 TB “enterprise” drive costs $235 versus a Seagate 3 TB “desktop” drive costs $102.
Most of the drives we get have a 3-year warranty, making failures a
non-issue from a cost perspective for that period. However, even if
there were no warranty, a 15% annual failure rate on the consumer
“desktop” drive and a 0% failure rate on the “enterprise” drive, the
breakeven would be 10 years, which is longer than we expect to even run
the drives for.

A no-brainer choice then...
Exactly.
The only decision you should take wether or not to use NAS drives. The NASware on WD is not bad, but the failure rates let me think if it may be the time to switch to hitachi for the next drives...

I have 25 Samsung F4 2 TB drives in all the systems I manage. Only one with any issues and I think it was damaged in shipping. Always will be my favorite drive.
On my main OMV box I have 2x4Tb WD Reds.
For my next 2x4Tb drives I will buy a Seagate NAS drive and a HGST drive.
When I was first buying 2TB drives the Hitachi's had the least complaints on newegg. I like 5 yr warranty too. If a drive goes bad in 3.1 yrs I don't want to have to buy a new one. 5yr should be standard warranty.
