Pasting over it probably wouldn't work how you think.. as it is command line, not a text file. I'm assuming you mean highlight the whole thing w/ your mouse, and then paste the contents. In that case, you would likely end up w/ a combination of the two files that would probably be rather epic in it's failure when you refreshed. .
The far more practical way, IMO.. unless you deleted theme-custom.css line for line, and then pasted the new one... would be to just delete the theme-custom.css file with the rm command mentioned in step 15 of post #10... Then after you do that, just repeat steps in post 1-8 in post #10.
However, to more directly to answer your question... if you were to modify the theme-custom.css in some manner and saved it.. ownership of the file should not change... so you shouldn't need to do anything but reload the webUI. Like with all things Linux, we could probably start a new thread and have a 10 page argument about the 30 different ways to do this and probably even find at least 10 ways on how to somehow merge them...
Personally, when he released "version 2", I just deleted it, created a new theme-custom.css, copy/paste, and chown. It took less than a minute once you know how to do it.... which I probably lost again writing this long winded post..

Yes it's true, you always write detailed novels ... in the time you have cloned from my Git repository 10x.
As you write so well, there are many roads that lead to Rome ...
The easiest is, since it is only 1 file, to do it by copy/paste. Or you use WinSCP under Windows. Since the new Dark Theme is only 1 week old, something will still change in some places. Currently I have only little time to work on it ...

I actually forgot about your "optional" steps (which I did do)... I'll edit those in.
Done. Starts at Step 9 for those who followed them before.

So, i´ve wanted to try this out. But I have an own loginpage background image. In the theme-custom.css I have the following text:
Code
Alles anzeigen/* Login page */ /******************************************************************************/ /*body# */ .login-page { /** background: #2e2e2e; */ background: url("/images/server.jpg") no-repeat center center fixed; background-size: cover;
I would like to keep this. How can i integrate that to the stuff from github?

Basically, these are special requests where things and implementations of the users diverge. Therefore, no background image is set in the code there by default.
If you want to change this according to your wishes, then do so. Put your code exactly in this place and comment out my code. You can adjust the theme-custom.css individually to your wishes, just remember that especially at the beginning of the code will change a lot. Here you have to adjust your own .css again and again.
Since in the standard of OMV no image is defined, I would like to leave it that way. Do as you think, have fun.

I try to fulfill every wish if possible ;-)Every wish not, because then I sit all day at the code.
Everyone can now decide what he wants. Without background image these lines again from comment and activate default.
Owner of the .jpg define set:
Codecd /var/www/openmediavault/images chown openmediavault-webgui:openmediavault-webgui login-bg.jpg
Have Fun

For example, it can also look like this
login-bg.jpg has been uploaded to Github

I like that, but I'm not seeing the raw image on GH
Edit: Nevermind, it just popped up all of a sudden.

topaLE .. Well done.. I like that one a lot.
For those looking for an easy way to use the background in Post #28. You can really use any image you want following these instructions, so long as you name it login-bg.jpg, make sure it is in the /var/www/openmediavault/images directory, and set it's ownership.
1. cd to the css directory
2. Remove the old theme-custom.css
Now follow steps 1-8 in post 10, to download the new theme-custom.css
When that is complete...
3. cd to the images directory
4. Use wget to download the image
5. chown the image
6. Reload your web browser, and then log out to see the new screen.

Danke für die Arbeit. Hat auch funktioniert mit meinem eigenen Background. Aber so wirklich gefällt mir das dunkle Design so noch nicht. Bin wieder zurück gegangen auf Standart Theme
Danke trotzdem für die Mühe.

did you use the new themes-custom.css? It won't work with the original as he had not updated it with a login window section. See post 30, then 10

Wie gesagt, ist reine Geschmackssache, kein Problem

You need to include the new commit as well, so re-paste the code.
-
-
But I did paste again the code https://raw.githubusercontent.…mes/main/theme-custom.css
still not showing image
-
-
Of course it is still there but ...

What browser are you using? Try checking it in Incognito/Privacy mode, see if its a cache issue.,
-
Even worse now with no cache and I made sure to rm the previous custom.css
anyway
