I setup one SMB share that is not guest access, when I go into it and try to use my test user dumdum, he cannot access it. I went into user access and gave him access to the folder, I went to the folder level and checked that he has access and then I went to ACL and made sure he had access. No matter what I do, I cannot access that folder on my windows like I can with all the guest access folders.
Can't access SMB Share on Windows

Checking back on this

I tried doing recursive on the shared folder access control like I read in another thread and still no access. I gave access to dumdum instead of root and still I can't get in.

Try adding the windows user with their password to omv then try again
-
Failing that try this documentation
-
I added a windows user and added it to OMV, no joy. thank you for the documentation, I have read it and others like it multiple times and nothing appears to work.

In windows file explorer do you see your NAS in "Networks"

The user name and password have to be identical upper/lower case etc

Yes. I got a new share to work with a user name in windows and omv but I read somewhere I should just be able to reference omv username. Also the share I was testing with originally I’ve deleted and redone multiple times and still it won’t work with that name.

I did another test with a different username I setup and a different share. It let me in and then I went into OMV and took away access. It still lets me in on the computer I did it for. And even on this new one it took multiple tries before it let me in so I'm trying to have it kick me out so I can test and make sure it thoroughly is maybe working.
I still am sure I read something that said I can use serveraddress\username to log in without having to have it on windows.

That document I posted a link to explains in detail how to set up access to shared folders and using servername\username is not one of them
There is an option somewhere on windows within the logon window to the share (I think) to check a box 'remember my credentials'
-
Yes I did not see it, but I saw it on another thrread. Regardless, I did not check remember my credentials and even removed the users access and still I can access the shares.

I guess the main issue is, what good is password protected shares if once you get in, they never lock out again?

but the share is only accessible to the user with the password, the only way to stop that is to uncheck 'remember my credentials'
-
I never checked that. I logged in once and never again. I never checked remember password and I took access away in OMV.
