Still doesn't do anything, keep getting same error. I think my next step is to try a clean install of OMV 7, instead of upgrade from OMV 6, and see if that gets me anywhere.

Well this is a reason you generally do not follow guides on Reddit. Most of them (as in this case) have Linux knowledge, not omv knowledge. First look under fileaystems in the webui, and I assume this filesystem is marked missing. If that is accurate:…

which filesystem do you use on your harddisk?
Sound like you use something else as EXT4.
Linux stores the permissions for the folders and files in the filesystem.
If you use NTFS e.g. strange things with permissions can happen..
