Backup and website omv-extras

  • I am installing a new NAS with OMV.

I have never tested version 5.0 before, so sorry if my question is inappropriate.

Also since yesterday I can no longer access the site https://www.omv-extras.org which is always offline.

    I only need to enable:

    1. Access to folders from Windows PCs
    2. The backup of these folders on an external folder, for example on a disk inserted in a USB port
    3. The backup of these folders on an Internet backup service, I have not yet decided which one.
    4. The activation of NextCloud for sharing other folders with smartphones or PCs.

Today, what services can I already find integrated or with plugins?

Do you have any suggestions for Internet backup?

Do you have any general suggestions for this installation?

I thank you in advance for your advice

Thanks in advance for your help.

I don't have https enabled. http://omv-extras.org works just fine.

    omv-extras 5.0 plugins are here - https://bintray.com/openmediavault-plugin-developers/usul

Do you have any suggestions for Internet backup?

duplicati works well for some. I use rsync over ssh myself.

Do you have any general suggestions for this installation?

Depends on the system but this guide is very helpful - Installing OMV5 on Raspberry PI's, Armbian SBC's, & i386 32-bit platforms

    omv 7.0.5-1 sandworm | 64 bit | 6.8 proxmox kernel

    plugins :: omvextrasorg 7.0 | kvm 7.0.13 | compose 7.2 | k8s 7.1.0-3 | cputemp 7.0.1 | mergerfs 7.0.4 | scripts 7.0.1

omv-extras.org plugins source code and issue tracker - github - changelogs

  • Now I see OMV-Extras web site, but it's a completely white page with a link to jfrog.

It is certainly not the site I knew.

    it's right?

Where can I find the description of the Extra plugins? On the old site there was.

OMV I will install it on a VM in ESXi.

There will only be one non-RAID disk because the physical server (DELL) has its RAID anyway.

I was thinking of creating a 200GB logical disk, which dynamically expands into 20GB modules.

I know Duplicati and will be able to use it for backup on the external disk.

But what can I use to backup the Internet?

I certainly can't use this or SSH.

I know OMV up to version 4, which however has been little use for a long time and not the update.

Until now I didn't need to backup via the Internet.

Now I can't do without it, for safety reasons.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Yep. I moved it to Ubuntu 18 which meant an upgrade of php. I couldn't get the previous site to work under php7. So, I just made a simple page since bintray is the most accurate info anyway.

You certainly can use it for internet backups - https://duplicati.readthedocs.…ction/#supported-backends

  • OK thanks. I will better read Duplicati's documentation.

Where can I find the description of the plugins, which was previously in the old site?

Duplicati supports deduplication and local decryption. So it is ideal for internet backup.

For local backup I prefer rsync. Then you can access the files easily without additional software.

I know how to use rSync, but a user doesn't.

It must be a simple thing to use.

I do the backup automatically, but how can the user restore the files he may have lost?

The bintray link I provided you. The old site got the description from bintray. https://bintray.com/openmediavault-plugin-developers/usul

or you could just install omv-extras and read the descriptions in the plugin tab.

  • How about UrBackup for client backup to OMV?

I installed a test VM, I don't already find all the plugins.

UeBackup doesn't seem to see it and I don't even see Duplicati.

    I'll check better tomorrow.

    For the moment, thank you

    Duplicati, for example.

Would you recommend installing version 4 again?

I see plugins for OMV Version 4.x, not for 5.x.

You see plugins for OMV 4.x where? The link I gave you was to the usul repo. If they are in the usul repo, they are for OMV 5.x. Don't assume they are for OMV 4.x by version number. And if you are looking at the Plugin tab on an OMV 5.x VM, you definitely are seeing OMV 5.x plugins. https://bintray.com/openmediavault-plugin-developers/usul

This will tell you which plugins have been depracated and you need to run in docker if you want that service.

RE: Why should you use or not use dockers

    No.

I see also the repo for Version 4.

In that version there are many more plugins.

For this reason I was wondering if it was not better to install the 4.

    Why are there fewer plugins?

    Are they still in development?

    ======

Update. OK, I saw your link on why the plugins are deprecated and Docker should be used.

Thanks in advance for your help.

  • This will tell you which plugins have been depracated and you need to run in docker if you want that service.

I've seen some links related to use of Docker in OMV.

I never used it because I've always been confused and perplexed about two things.

The updates, because it doesn't seem to me to be as simple as a sudo update / upgrade or a couple of clicks in the OMV panel.

I can't run the risk of losing configurations or user's data with an upgrade.

The second concern is related to the exchange between the various containers.

For example, do Duplicati or Nextcloud containers see OMV user folders?

So, if OMV passes from a management with Plugins to a management with Docker there should be a guide to its integration.

If there is, where can I find it?

Thanks in advance for your help.
