Unmount LUKS not possible

  • Hello all,

I have a problem unmounting an (external) LUKS encrypted harddisk. I would like to remove the disk from my system.

Current configuration: HP N54L running OMV 4.1.36-1

Several internal HDs and 1 external HD connected via USB

The external HD is LUKS encrypted and is currently mounted.

-Filesystem unmount in OMV is greyed out

-LUKS Plugin "Lock disk" is greyed out

    - 1 sharedfolder pointing to this HD cannot be deleted (Greyed out)

How can I safely remove this disk?

  • 1 sharedfolder pointing to this HD cannot be deleted (Greyed out)

Then this folder is probably used in a service (smb, nfs, scheduled job, ...)

    Remove it from that service.

If you do not find the service, install the resetperms plugin which shows you which sharedfolder is used where.

  • Thanks for the tips.

I have no service linked to that drive.

I also cannot find the restperms Plugin. When I press "Check" under Plugins I get the following error:

  • For OMV4:

    The commands work up until:

apt-key add omvextras2026.asc which results in error

    Code
gpg: no valid OpenPGP data found.

  • ..but the Plugin is now installing -> worked. Thanks!

The issue was the fact that a disabled SMB share was pointing to the external HD.

So it is not enough to disable an SMB share before unmounting the underlying drive, the share must be deleted.
