Hello everyone. I was curious how frequently you set the quick test on your disk. For every disk, I set them to run once a week. Do you also take the lengthy test, and how frequently?
How frequently do you do SMART tests—short and long?
-
-
I run only the long test once a week.
-
short - once a week, long - once a month.
-
-
I run them when I need too, which is rare. Every drive that comes my way gets full tested by Western Digital software. Even with what some term questionable results, the drive passes. Smart isn't the saviour many believe it to be, and smart won't protect you from a head crash, so what's the point?
Back up and you don't have problems.

Information that warns about the increasing chance of a failure is worth having.

If I get warning of an impending failure, which I won't because write errors will alert me before I consult smart, and I'll use the drive until it fails, so no big deal.
Having consulted the minds of the internet There are no defining stats that say a drive is about toast other than rapidly advancing reallocated sectors count.
OMV has given me red warnings on a drive that WD test showed green, Who do I believe in such case?
I have little faith in smart readings which haven't worked for me, hence my previous post.
Quotewe find that failure prediction models based on SMART parameters alone are likely to be severely limited in their prediction accuracy, given that a large fraction of our failed drives have shown no SMART error signals whatsoever.

Just because you have little faith in something does not mean it is not useful to others. That is the point.

I run short tests once a month.
However, I configured a cronjob to get an email from HDSentinel every sunday, which produces a very detailed SMART report.

Why don't you stick to the topic instead of trying to force your will on me, as seems to be the norm around here.
