Correct install docker on omv 7

  • Through another call earlier I was able to install omv 7 on the odroid.

    I have been trying to install Docker for a few days now. It has worked a few times, but I cannot communicate with the Ubuntu PC.

    So I added omv again and again to get this done. Can't get it right.

    It is probably due to SMB that it is not working.

    My question is how I can properly install Docker step by step, and how I can get SMB working.

    I have already watched and performed several YouTube videos, but it always turns out differently for me.

    Hopefully someone can help me with that. Greetings from Holland

    but I cannot communicate with the Ubuntu PC.

    What does this mean? Connect from Ubuntu to the GUI of OMV? Or via ssh to OMV? Connect to a Container? Connect to data on OMV via SMB?

    My question is how I can properly install Docker step by step, and how I can get SMB working.

    I would think these are two different topics: Docker and SMB.

    Correct or do you have some kind of link between the two that is complicating things?

  • Connect to data on OMV via SMB

    And maybe a link to install docker correctly.

    I have succeeded in the past.

    Then I headed omv 6, and then had to enter something in terms of text in the smb option.

    Don't remember what that was??

  • It's all still quite complicated.

    I've been working on it, but my English isn't great, and I see a lot of text that I don't understand properly.

    I'll try and see if I can find something on YouTube.

    This is easier for me. See and follow something

    Thanks voor de info

    Did you use a translation tool on the wiki? Most browsers can do that.
    Otherwise, watch my video and just stop before the portainer part -

  • I have the translator on.

    I can just read it, but I see a lot of text, and then it becomes too complicated for me.

    I'll check out the video and hopefully it will work. omv 6 immediately had docker, portainer and yacht in the menu.

    Was a little easier.

    Now you have to install it separately

    I have watched so many different YouTube videos, and they are all explained in a different way. The video of you is explained differently. Why ??

    I don't know. I don't watch other videos. Since I wrote the plugins, I would say my video is correct.

    Somehow it doesn't really work.

    What now ??

    You need to cut&paste the error from the bell in the top right part of the omv web interface. Do you need portainer?

  • I have already started reinstalling everything.

    Can't send the error anymore.

    Sorry Odroid is empty again, and is now busy putting a clean bookworm on it.

    I only had 3 containers on it. Plex, Motion (camera software) and Syncthing.

    That's all. Try your video settings again later.

    I can just read it, but I see a lot of text, and then it becomes too complicated for me.

    I tried to write those two wiki documents about docker in a way that anyone can understand them. But if it's still too complicated for you, you can follow this guide.

    You just have to copy and paste.

    I have looked at the OMV Quick Configuration Guide, but that will take me a few days to figure this out.

    Doing the complete configuration of an OMV system with shared folders and docker running following that guide should not take more than 20 or 30 minutes.

    I get this error message in the terminal

    that is safe to ignore since you are installing a fresh system instead of upgrading.

    SMB is visible but cannot open it.

    What does this mean? Can't you access that folder from a client? do you get any errors on the server? If that is the case, what is the error?

    root@odroidxu4:~# id

    uid=0(root) gid=0(root) groups=0(root)

    That is expected if you run the id command. The output is the root user's parameters. If you want the parameters of another user you must execute the command specifying the user. For example for the user appuser it would be id appuser

    Code
    ~# id
    uid=0(root) gid=0(root) grupos=0(root)
    ~# id appuser
    uid=1000(appuser) gid=100(users) grupos=100(users)
