Whenever I do something similar to what you are trying I do it the other way around, in pull mode. That avoids potential permissions issues and makes setup easier.
I'm sorry to tell you but since there are two OMV machines I would do it the other way around, I would create the module on the machine that has the data and the task on the machine that wants to read that data to copy it.
You don't need to use root, you can use any user you have given permission to on the shared folder you are creating the rsync module with.
The Type field must have the value Remote.

Where did you read that?
Machine A creates an rsync module from an existing DATA shared folder on machine A. User PETER has read permissions on the DATA folder.
Machine B creates an rsync task in pull mode to read the rsync DATA module from machine A. That task must be configured with the PETER user on machine A and the password of the PETER user on machine A. That task will write the data to a shared folder on machine B.
I've been doing this same thing for years.
WARNING
Be very careful with the tests you are doing. If you make a mistake in any of them, you could delete the data. Always activate the Trial run button until you are sure that the result of the task is as expected.
