Hi guys I wanted to give 8 vcpu to my windows 8.1 VM but Windows detected these vCPUs as separate processors (not cores) and it could use only 2 of them.Please take a look at this link on how to solve it and is it possible to integrate it in the plugin
I've changed the windows code to use one socket and disabled smep. To fix your issue, you need disable smep. So, change the xml to:
<cpu mode='host-passthrough' check='none'>
<topology sockets='1' cores='4' threads='2'/>
<feature policy='disable' name='smep'/>
</cpu>
I'm feeling a bit stupid, I can't find a guide I understand to add folders from OMV to my ubuntu VM. I'm trying to get Shinobi cctv working, I normally use docker, but Shinobi STMP or FTP won't work in docker, but it will work on bare metal and last tie I tested a vm.
I've a 500GB drive and a 4TB USB drive, both are mounted via OMV, and I've setup a share on '/' for both and a folder on each drive.
So I want to add a folder from each drive to my VM, so I can access the files over the network if need be.
I expect I'm making this hard for myself, but what do I need to do from the plugin to accomplish this?
I assume it's via pools, I've looked up loads of libvirt stuff, but can't get my head around it, I've used Vbox and used shared folders, but I want to use this KVM plugin as I think OMV, KVM plugin and docker are the ideal home lab setup.
Thanks for any pointers

Thank you for the code but it still doesn't match the guide. It just does not show individual cores. Please take a look at the image of my previous post and compare it with the guide.
To my understanding windows 8.1 does nothing of cores=4. Just shows them as 8 virtual cpus.
Also smep did not appear to do anything

Then the guide is wrong or outdated.

I tested this on my own Windows VM and it worked. I wouldn't suggest something that I didn't test. I am using Windows 10 though. Windows 8 has been EOL'd for 3+ years.

cores=4 and threads=2 should show as 8 virtual cpus. Not sure what you are trying to say. And disabling smep did fix the issue on my system.
I actually have Xeon e5530 so basically no igpu so I wanted a very light system.
What would you suggest

For what?
Hi I just had one more problem of not being able pass through usb pen drives to a windows 8.1 VM.
So basically after adding USB drives to the VM via GUI and rebooting I get a windows drivers failure.

Can we please not turn this into a Windows (EOL'd at that) support thread? All the plugin can do is add the usb device. You need to install the drivers. The plugin allows you to download the virtio iso and then you can attach it to install the drivers.

I did not intent to do that, and I should not have
I will have to look at cloning
Is cloning still being considered ?
Or can the vm .xml file be copied and edited ?

Yes. I wrote the code but I haven't been able to get virt-clone to work. I will try to look more at it.

you could copy the xml and the disk images to make another one since they are just files. You would need to tell virsh to create a new vm from the copied xml. Probably just be easier to copy the disk image and create a new VM with the same settings as the other vm.

5.1.5 is in the repo now and has an option to clone VMs using virt-clone. No idea why I was having problems getting it to work last time.
After reading the whole thread I declare myself incapable. I have followed the guide in the middle of the thread, I have tried all the network configurations, with a bridge, without a bridge. I have tried with various ISOS, I have tried with static OMV and DHCP network configuration. There is no way, I am doing something wrong and I don't know what it is. I have tested on two OMV servers with different hardware, both with virtualization enabled in BIOS.
When I have created the virtual machine I give it to start and it does not start, logically it does not tell me which port to connect to to see it. I don't know what information to provide, please help.
I upload some images of my configuration if it works.
I see the problem. KVM does not have permissions on the pool.

I will investigate how to solve this. Any help is welcome.
Solved.
I had set up storage in a shared folder with other docker data.
Setting up storage on a newly installed disk everything works.
If someone makes the same mistake, you know.
So yeah, i made a rookie mistake and didnt check before i saved. Is there away to adjust the size of a volume, need to change from 20GB to 200GB and hoping i dont have to rebuild the whole thing again.
