Getting this - The DNS hostname is limited to 15 characters when using SMB/CIFS.
My host name is - omv-nas.xyzxyz.xyz
Also tried omv.xyzxyz.xyz
What does it mean? This is on brand new OMV install
Thx

The period (.) could be the problem. It is only allowed to delimit the components of a domain style name. Is ".xyz" a part of a domain name?
The hostname will be populated in the database by the following script. Maybe someone can test it and verify if this is the source of the problem.
So the problem was that hostname in the OMV GUI network/setting and in /etc/hostname were different
I had the same problem in the FTP section: My hostname was set like "machine.local" while it should be only "machine". The rest belongs in the "domain" part or maybe leave it on "local".
Would be nice if OMV backend checked the hostname entry to make sure there are no dots.
I am having the same problem too and the script did not help
I worked around it by intentionally giving a short hostname, re-enabling SMB, and then changing the hostname back to what was set previously
Note that you need to do this for any changes to your SMB service (e.g. adding/removing a SMB share)
